NEW HOLLAND, Pa. (WHTM) -

The treasurer of a Lancaster County swim team is accused of taking over $20,000 from the team's account.

On September 2 the New Holland Police Department met with board members of the New Holland Dolphins Swim Team regarding misappropriation of funds they had discovered in their account.

The swim team's board members had discovered a number of unauthorized withdrawals, issued checks and unauthorized transactions with the swim team's debit card after the former treasurer of the club left the position.

Following an investigation, officials determined that former New Holland Swim Team treasurer Shelly Martin had issued unauthorized checks to herself, used the swim team's debit card for personal purchases and withdrew cash from the swim team's account which she deposited in to her personal account.

Police said Martin took $20,046.32 from the New Holland Dolphins Swim Team while serving as treasurer.

Detectives interviewed Martin on Tuesday, at which time she admitted she had taken the money between January 2010 and August of 2013.

Martin was charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition on Thursday. She was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.
