GLEN ROCK, Pa. (WHTM) -

A chemical leak at a Glen Rock-area business sent one person to a hospital and forced the evacuation of nearby homes and businesses, but officials said it posed no danger to the public or community.

A chemical was released from two drums at Bimax Inc., at 158 Industrial Road in Springfield Township, around 5:45 a.m., according to York County 911 spokesman Carl Lindquist.

Several businesses and two home were evacuated due to the powerful odor of the chemical vapor, and responders also closed Commerce Drive and Industrial Road.

A section of Susquehanna Trail South was also closed, but has since reopened, Lindquist said.

One person exposed to the release was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Officials said the truck driver had inhaled a large amount of the chemical vapor and complained of an upset stomach.

The vapor could be smelled as far away as Shrewsbury.

The chemical released from the drums was later determined to be an irritant that poses no health hazards to the community, Lindquist said.
