A Lancaster man was able to safely escape a fire in his apartment this afternoon.
Officials said the resident was asleep on the first floor of the apartment in the 600 block of N. Mary Street when the fire started at 1:30 p.m., and was awakened by a family member or friend.
The four-alarm fire severely damaged the first floor. Officials did not immediately determine the cause.
No one was injured.
The American Red Cross said its volunteers were assisting an adult and two children who were displaced by the fire with food, clothing and shelter.
