CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Chambersburg elementary school was locked down this afternoon while police searched for a man wanted for an attempted kidnapping.

Police said they were searching for Williams Daniels, who was last seen in an area near the Thaddeus Stevens Elementary School at 800 Hollywell Avenue.

Daniels is wanted for a domestic dispute and the attempted kidnapping of someone known to him in the 100 block of S. Main Street earlier in the morning, police said.

Police said they tried to take him into custody in the area of Hollywell and Dump Road at 11 a.m. but he fled on foot.

Pennsylvania State Police, the Franklin County Sheriff's office, and a Maryland State Police helicopter assisted in the search before it was called off at 2:30 p.m.

Daniels was not located. Police said they planned to charge him with attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault and possible other crimes.

Daniels, a black male of Haitian decent, has a last known address in Naples, Florida. He is about 5'8" tall, 160 pounds, has collar-length hair in corn rows, and was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and sneakers, police said.

A handgun was recovered during the investigation, but police said he could be armed and dangerous.

Anyone who sees him should call 911, police said.
