MOUNT JOY, Pa. (WHTM) -

Two Mount Joy residents have admitted to stealing more than $152,000 in jewelry and other valuables during eight home burglaries in the Lancaster County borough over the past year, according to police.

Chad Anthony Eberly, 27, and Kristen Lynn Lumley, 29, both of 2044 Weeping Willow Lane, told investigators they needed the money for their drug addictions, police said Thursday.

Eberly and Lumley did landscaping or odd jobs for all of the victims, typically after offering their services by handing out flyers in the neighborhoods. Once they were familiar with the residents and their patterns, they burglarized their homes while they were away, police said.

In one incident, authorities said the couple stole $80,000 worth of jewelry from a home along Green Park Drive, then returned later and burglarized the woman a second time.

Another resident reported more than $56,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from her home.

Police said they learned through the investigation that Eberly and Lumley had pawned large amounts of jewelry. They said the jewelry matched some of the items stolen in the burglaries, and some of the jewelry was identified by the victims.

The couple most likely received pennies on the dollar for the stolen loot, police said.

Eberly and Lumley were each charged with a total of 48 felony counts, including eight counts each of burglary, criminal trespass, theft, conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit criminal trespass, and conspiracy to commit theft.

Both were sent to Lancaster County Prison on $100,000 straight bail.
