CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Carlisle woman arrested for public drunkenness had additional charges filed against her after she bit a police officer, according to North Middleton Township police.

Ancherie Smith, 33, was taken into custody Friday evening after officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Spring Road and found her staggering after running into a utility pole, police said.

Smith was transported to the Cumberland County Prison where she became combative and resisted officers trying to take her into the prison, police said.

She bit the uniformed North Middleton Township police officer on the hand, and then continued to resist corrections officers and was restrained at the prison, police said.

She was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated harassment by a prisoner, resisting arrest, simple assault and harassment along with the summary charge of public drunkenness.
