WILLOW HILL, Pa. (WHTM) -

A fatal tractor-trailer crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike closed the eastbound lanes for nearly eight hours and shut down the westbound lanes for about five hours Monday.

State police said the driver of a westbound tractor-trailer died at the scene after the rig crashed through the median concrete barrier and caught fire at mile marker 194.7 in Franklin County, between the tunnel and the Willow Hill interchange, around 9:40 a.m.

The driver's name was not immediately released.

The truck came to rest in the eastbound lanes, while the trailer and its load of large paper rolls remained in the westbound lanes.

Police said a vehicle traveling behind the 2010 Freightliner was struck by debris that caused minor damage, and a passenger car was disabled after striking debris in the eastbound lanes.

There were no other injuries.
