Update: Driver Charged After Train Collision in Lynch Station

Update Saturday:

Campbell Co., VA - A driver has been charged in a train accident in Campbell County Friday night.

Virginia State Police Trooper D.R. Skiff says a train hit a tractor trailer in Lynch Station around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Powell and Goodman Crossing Roads.

Police say the tractor trailer's landing gear got stuck on the tracks. The Norfolk Southern Railroad train tried to slow down, but there was not enough time. The train rammed right into the tractor trailer, splitting it in half.

Officials say there were two people inside the trailer, and luckily no one was injured.

Lynch Station residents say this isn't the first time they've seen big trucks get stuck on the tracks.

"Two weeks ago, luckily I was here and I had to call Norfolk Southern and I had them stop the trains. And they told me this isn't the first time they had something like this happen. And I think it's dangerous," said Jay Tilton, who lives around the corner from the tracks.

"We're not too surprised. We're just glad no one was hurt," said Tom Blanks, a Lynch Station resident.

State police say there are several street signs that say certain trucks can't go through the tracks.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Hector Jimenez of Pennsylvania, was charged with improper stopping on a highway.
