A 17-year-old girl was taken into custody at Manheim Township High School this morning after she stabbed a 16-year-old boy in the leg, according to township police.
The girl has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon on school property, and has been committed to the Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center, police said.
Police and school officials said the girl brought the knife to school and stabbed the boy as students were moving between classes around 8:30 a.m.
The boy defended himself, resulting in an injury to the girl, police said. Both students were treated and released.
The incident was isolated to the two students and no other student was harmed.
School spokeswoman Marie Brody said the victim suffered a minor injury, was treated by a school nurse, and no ambulance was called.
