Police, residents on alert after child-luring attempts

HANOVER, Pa. (WHTM) -

Three different child abduction attempts have been reported out of Penn Township and Hanover within the last two weeks.

Two of the abduction attempts occurred within three miles of each other, causing parents like Carey Plumlee of Hanover to take notice.

"We are aware of it because we read the local newspaper, people post on Facebook about it," said Plumlee.

Plumlee, a mother of two, says the entire community is on high alert.

"It's too close to home," she said. "It definitely is scary. I'd like to see more police presence."

Hanover Police Chief Dwayne Smith says officers will be patrolling through parks, playgrounds and neighborhoods.

"There is no taking a chance with the safety of a child. We encourage calls to the department and we will vigorously investigate those cases," Smith said.

Smith says Hanover and Penn Township are working closely to solve these cases but they are asking for the public's help.

"It's important for the community to understand that it is truly a partnership between the community and the police department," he said. "We have to work together to keep our community safe."
