A suspected shoplifter was running from a police officer when she was struck by a car Tuesday night on Route 30 near York.
Trooper Robert Hicks, a state police spokesman, said the woman was taken to York Hospital by ambulance after she was struck near the West Manchester Mall at around 8:20 p.m.
Hicks said the woman, who was not identified, is expected to survive.
Police said the woman had walked out of a Walmart with a cart full of unpaid groceries, but took off without the cart when was approached by store security.
Manchester police officer responded and saw her walking along
Route 30, and she noticed the officer and ran onto Route 30 at Kenneth Road, police said.
The driver who struck the woman stopped and cooperated with law enforcement, police said.
An officer in a police
positioned his vehicle in front of the woman to prevent her from being
struck again, and both officers administered first aid to the woman until
an ambulance arrived, police said.
Route 30 was temporarily closed at the scene of the crash.
