Accidents, Game Day Congestion Tying Up Traffic on I-81

Congestion earlier Saturday from an accident in Botetourt County near mile marker 150.
Botetourt Co., VA – VDOT is reporting traffic delays and resulting congestion from an several accidents in Botetourt County with new areas of congestion being reported as thousands head to the Virginia Tech game.
A tractor trailer accident at mile marker 160.2 in Botetourt County has the left shoulder closed and traffic backed up for nearly four miles, VDOT says.
Earlier, an accident had traffic backed up for seven miles at mile marker 150.1 southbound Saturday morning. The left southbound lane was closed earlier but is now back open, however congestion in the area remains an issue.
Also on I-81 southbound, congestion has traffic backed up for three miles at mile marker 168 southbound.
VDOT traffic cameras available to ABC 13 show some of the congestion.
There is light rain, fog, and drizzle in the area, and with thousands of college football fans headed to Blacksburg, officials urge caution and patience if you are traveling in the area.
