Cleaning up after the flood

Posted: Updated:

The rain that was coming from the sky last week is now flowing through the streets in many Midstate communities.

Some are emptying their sump pumps; the less lucky are trying to dry out their basements.

Home restoration crews have been working around the clock. Experts say the main risk factor isn't necessarily living on or near water, but simply having a basement.

If flood water came from the ground, it may be contaminated. Rapid cleanup is crucial.

"We have plenty of people that will call when they know a big storm is happening, and they will call and say, 'I want to be first on the list because they know its going to happen,'" said Anthony Worrall, president of Reynolds Restoration Services.

Experts warn against using bleach for clean-up; often basements don't have proper ventilation, and it can make you sick.
