Police release photos from robber's 4th hold-up

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police investigating four armed robberies in the Mechanicsburg area since Thursday have released surveillance photos from the latest crime.

The photos show a masked, armed man robbing the Sun Up Exxon gas station at 101 North Walnut Street shortly before 8 p.m. Monday.

Police believe the same man is responsible for similar robberies at the Pizza Hut at 610 East Simpson Street on Thursday night, the Lucky Mart convenience store at 1100 East Simpson Street on Friday night, and the B&H Mart convenience store in the 3600 block of Simpson Ferry Road in Lower Allen Township on Sunday night.

In each incident, police said the tall, thin robber was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, a red mask, and he demanded cash from the register while holding a gun.

"We understand the concern that store owners and the people that work in these stores have right now," said David Spotts, Chief of Mechanicsburg Police. "Obviously a proactive investigation is up and running, and it is on going right now."

Police believe the suspect is acting alone. All of the robberies have occurred around 8 p.m.

"There have not been other customers in the store, so operating hypothesis,  he is taking a look at the store for at least a little bit of time before he decides to make his entry," said Spotts.

Police say they are concerned about the crimes escalating.

"It could be drug related, trying to steal to support a habit. It could be some type of thrill thing. It could be somebody that wants to get caught. We are hoping that this can be resolved peacefully and that no one gets injured," said Spotts.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lower Allen police at 717-239-9676 or Mechanicsburg police at 717-691-3300.
