Coroner: Couple died of gunshots in Grantville motel

Posted: Updated:
GRANTVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

Two people found dead inside a Grantville motel each died from a single gunshot wound to the head, but Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick said Wednesday that he was unable to determine whether the case is a homicide or a murder-suicide.

Hetrick released autopsy results on the bodies that were found Tuesday morning at the Cottage Inn & Self Storage, at 10200 Allentown Boulevard, along with the couple's unharmed 4-month-old daughter.

Police said they have evidence to suggest that 22-year-old Savanna Mercedes Silva of Grantville fatally shot her boyfriend, 21-year-old Luis Angel Gerena-Morales, before turning the gun on herself.

Hetrick said the two died within minutes each other sometime between 6 and 7:30 a.m. in the living room area of the motel unit. He said the bodies were next to each other and a large caliber handgun was nearby.

Someone spotted the bodies through a window and contacted the motel manager, who called 911 at around 7:42 a.m., he said.

Hetrick is awaiting toxicology tests to see whether the results may be pertinent to the investigation.

State police were planning to conduct more interviews throughout the day.

Police said they are not actively looking for any suspects, and they do not believe there is any danger to the public.
