Community relieved by robbery suspect's arrest

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Over the past few days, you could stop just about anyone on the streets of Mechanicsburg and they would know about the masked armed robbery that was hitting several stores on the West Shore.

"We were talking about it at lunch the last couple days actually, and it was the talk at the local watering hole," said Ron Hoffman.

Hoffman and his crew were replacing old windows on a house on Main Street in the borough and were happy to hear police had made an arrest.

James Borwegen, 30, was arrested at his home on Bradley Drive in North Middleton Township just before 6 a.m. Wednesday. Police believe he is responsible for 5 armed robberies on the West Shore in the past six days.

"I am definitely relieved; I know a lot of the small business owners here are," said Hoffman.

The images of the masked armed robber were especially nerve-racking for business owners in the Mechanicsburg area. The Better Batter Bakery on Main Street has only been opened for three weeks.

"I definitely had my guard up," said Kate Brinser, the bakery's manager. "I know that towards the end of my shift yesterday I looked really quickly at people coming in because I was a little bit nervous."

Borwegen has already served time for a 2000 third degree murder conviction. He shot and killed his 13 year old neighbor. Borwegen was 16 years old at the time of the murder.

"It just makes it more alarming especially to hear what his past charges were. Very scary," said Brinser. "Now that everything is taken care of I am feeling a lot better."
