Reward offered, tips wanted in Arooga's robbery

Posted: Updated:
CAMP HILL, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police looking for a pair of gunmen who held up customers and staff at an Arooga's Grille House and Sports Bar in Cumberland County have released photos of the robbers so that someone may recognize them.

East Pennsboro Township police said they're also looking to identify the owner of a red Ford pickup truck that was seen leaving the restaurant on the Camp Hill Bypass during the time the robbery occurred early Saturday.

The pickup is possibly a late 2000's full-size Ford that is bright red in color and has a red bed cap, police said.

Investigators believe the gunmen entered the restaurant through an unlocked back door at around 2:40 a.m. and forced about 10 patrons and staffers into the dining room, where they robbed the victims of cash, cell phones and jewelry.

An employee was forced to hand over money from the restaurant office, police said.

One of the robbers was described as a heavy set black male who was over 6'0" tall and wearing a blue winter jacket, according to police.

The other man was said to be white with a slender build, about 5'10" to 6'0" tall, and wearing a khaki hooded jacket, police said.

Both wore full face masks and were armed with handguns.

No one was injured.

East Pennsboro Detective Sergeant Michael Cotton said police are looking for any similarities between the robbery and a burglary at an Arooga's restaurant in York County.

Springettsbury Township police have reported that someone forced their way into the Arooga's in the 1200 block of Haines Road early Wednesday and removed an undisclosed amount of cash.

Cotton said authorities do not believe the crime is related to armed robberies in the Mechanicsburg area that resulted in the arrest of James Borwegen, but he said police continue to investigate any possible link to Borwegen.

Borwegen, 30, of North Middleton Township, was charged Wednesday with five armed robberies in Mechanicsburg, Lower Allen Township and Upper Allen Township during the past week.

Police additionally announced that the Arooga's corporate office has offered a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those involved in the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call the East Pennsboro Township police at 717-732-3633.
