Danville, VA - Danville Police are now investigating a homicide, following a home invasion that happened earlier this week.
Police say Charles Donald Earles, 52, was at his home on Edmonds Street when someone broke in Tuesday night.
They say this is an unusual case and they are looking at all of the options. They say Earles and another woman at the house were assaulted during the invasion.
Police say Earles suffered a head injury and was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Earles was pronounced dead early Thursday morning.
While police say they do not have a motive, they also cannot comment if this home invasion was connected to another one that happened just Thursday night in Danville.
They are asking everyone to be on the lookout for anything suspicious.
"Anytime somebody breaks into your house it's unusual while you are home. So, in that case, that's what happened. The house was broken into or somebody came into the home while somebody was home," said Lt. Doug Crawford with the Danville Police Department.
Police say the woman's injuries were not as serious and she has since been released from the hospital.
