Beer Festival to Benefit Forest Fire Department

Forest, VA - Having a cold one Saturday could turn up the heat on efforts to finish the Forest Volunteer Fire Department's building.

Apocalypse Ale Works is hosting the first-ever Fire Fest to raise money for the department's building fund.

Right now the department can only use half the building. The living quarters aren't finished, so there's nowhere for the volunteer firefighters to eat or sleep.

It's going to take $500,000 to finish the area to the level to obtain a certificate of occupancy for that part of the building.

If there are firefighters hanging out at the station, instead of responding from home, it could mean they get to your emergency faster.

"Obviously a benefit to having the members here, just like you would in a municipal, paid department, when you get the call all they have to do it walk out the door, and get on the apparatus," said Todd Styles, Deputy Chief.

Fire Fest is from noon until 6p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $25 at the gate. Apocalypse Ale Works is on Burnbridge Road in Forest.
