Harrisburg police officer suspended over PAL funds

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Harrisburg police officer has been suspended amid allegations she mismanaged funds for a program to help the city's youth.

Officer Jennie Jenkins, who had been president of Harrisburg PAL since the program was restarted in January 2012, has surrendered her badge and her gun, according to city spokesman Robert Philbin.

Philbin said Chief Thomas Carter became aware of irregularities in PAL funds soon after he reorganized the Bureau of Police about three weeks ago.

abc27 News sources believe the missing funds are upwards of $10,000.

Because the PAL board consists of Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico and Dauphin County commissioners, the case is also being investigated by the state attorney general's office.
