LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Lancaster County man has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for the beating death of his infant son.

The plea Monday morning will put 25-year-old Andrew Moyer in prison for the rest of his life with no chance of parole, rather than face a death sentence at trial.

Moyer and the baby's mother, 24-year-old Brianna Michael, both of Columbia, were charged last year with homicide, conspiracy and several counts of endangering the welfare of a child after their son, 6-week-old Andrew R. Moyer Jr., who was found dead at the couple's apartment in the 100 block of Locust Street.

Prosecutors said the couple tortured the baby, refused to get him medical treatment, and struck him on the head until he died Oct. 18, 2012.

An autopsy revealed the baby had been abused for at least a week before he died of the head injuries.

The child also suffered nine broken ribs, facial injuries, burn marks and massive injuries to his genitals, according to investigators.

It was not immediately clear how Moyer's plea would affect the case against Michael.
