HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Federal prosecutors have charged a former vice president at Harrisburg Area Community College with wire fraud for allegedly stealing more than $228,000 in school funds.

Nancy Rockey, 55, of Harrisburg, is accused of using her HACC credit card to purchase Target gift cards online, then using the gift cards to buy non-work-related items for herself, her family and her friends, according to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith.

Rockey also created bogus invoices that she submitted to the HACC finance office to conceal the unauthorized purchases, Smith said.

Dauphin County prosecutors charged Rockey with theft by unlawful taking in January, but withdrew the charge in March and allowed federal authorities to take over the case.

Rockey was employed by HACC from 1980 until her resignation in February 2012. At the time of her resignation, she was vice president of the Harrisburg campus and vice president of College and Community Development.

The credit card was provided to her for the purchase of work-related items such as text books, training materials and other educational items.
