Byron's Response to Women's Rally

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - Delegate Kathy Byron is responding to a political rally hosted Monday by her Democratic opponent, Katie Webb-Cyphert, geared toward women voters.

Byron says she's become a target of liberals because of her conservative record on social issues, but she says it's short-sided to think that's all women care about.

"Women voters care about everything. Most women are part of families. They've got husbands, children, grandchildren. They care about jobs and the economy. They care about a multitude of things," Byron said.

Byron's opponent, Webb-Cyphert, told ABC 13 she believes people are ready for someone new to fill a seat that hasn't been challenged in a decade.

Byron says her experience matters.

"I have served this area for 14 years. I have worked hard to create jobs and help the economy in this area and economic development," Byron said.

While Dorothy McAuliffe, wife of Democratic candidate for Governor Terry McAuliffe, stumped for Webb-Cyphert, Byron is getting some help as well.

Byron will appear with Tiero Cuccinelli, wife of Republican candidate for Governor Ken Cuccinelli, at a women's rally before Thursday's gubernatorial debate in Blacksburg.
