Small betting pools for the NCAA basketball tournament and other sporting events could soon be legal in Pennsylvania.
Under legislation passed Wednesday by the state Senate, volunteer organizations and clubs that have a small games of chance license could offer sports betting pools if the entry amount is $20 or less, there are no more than 100 participants, and all proceeds are awarded to the contestants.
Sen. Lisa Boscola (D-Northampton/Lehigh/Monroe) said the legislation she authored was amended into House Bill 290, which would also make several reforms to the state's Small Games of Chance law.
The amended bill was returned to the state House of Representatives for consideration.
