Police in York County are warning of a possible scam where a caller promises to remove viruses from home computers.
Northern York County Regional police said a Manchester Township resident received one of the phone calls on Wednesday.
The resident told officers he received a call from a company that asked to scan his computer by remote access.
The caller performed the scan and advised the resident that several viruses and malware were found on the computer, and claimed he could clean it for $300, police said.
The resident asked to speak to a supervisor, and was put on the phone with another man who gave the same sales pitch, police said.
The resident asked for a phone number and the call was disconnected, police said.
Police advised residents not to give unsolicited callers access to their computers or personal information.
Anyone who received a similar call should report it to their local police department, they said.
