Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a school bus carrying children from the Spring Grove School District.
Southwestern Regional police said a pickup truck struck the back of the bus while it was stopped at the railroad crossing on Old Hanover Road in Heidelberg Township Thursday morning.
Thirty-six high school and middle school students were on the bus. Many of the children reported bumps and bruises and one student sought medical attention for a non-life threatening injury, police said.
The driver of the pickup briefly remained on the scene, told the bus driver she would return, but then drove away and did not return, police said.
The driver was a 40- to 50-year-old woman with blonde hair, and her truck was a brown, older model Chevrolet, police said.
The bus driver was able to get the truck's license plate number and police believe they have a possible suspect, but they said that person has not yet come forward.
Police said the collision was recorded by video equipment in the bus, owned by Durham School Bus Services, and they said there was a substantial amount of impact from the crash.
