A Dauphin County man has been arrested for causing severe injuries to his 2-month-old child.

Charles L. McConnell, 25, of Londonderry Township, was charged Friday with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

McConnell's infant son was treated in the emergency room at Penn State Hershey Medical Center on Sunday and was found to have suffered injuries that included three rib fractures, a fractured right arm, bleeding on the brain, injuries to the ligaments of his neck, blood at the base of his lower spine and a bruise on his lower back, according to the Dauphin County District Attorney's Office.

McConnell gave state troopers and caseworkers from Children and Youth Services various explanations for his son's injuries, but those explanations are inconsistent with the severity of the injuries, authorities said.

Doctors at the hospital told investigators the injuries are consistent with multiple episodes of abuse, authorities said.

McConnell was arraigned before a district judge following his arrest and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled Nov. 4.
