Roanoke Valley Foundation Surprises 25 Charities With Grants

Roanoke, VA - The Foundation For Roanoke Valley spent the past week celebrating their 25th anniversary by handing out 25 grants to deserving non-profits.

The non profits can use the thousand dollar grants for anything they see fit.

Friday morning "Operation Surprise 25" wrapped up a week of giving by stopping by the Science Museum of Western Virginia for a visit.

Museum leaders say donations like this are a welcome site as non-profits are always on the lookout for revenue.

"The reaction has been wonderful. We've had people screaming and crying and jumping and it's been a great experience for (the) staff to be a part of this. Our mission is to give money back into the community in an effective way and this is really lived it out this week," said Foundation for Roanoke Valley Executive Director, Alan Ronk.

Mill Mountain Zoo, The March of Dimes and Angels of Assisi were just a few of the other non-profits who were surprised.
