HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Family and friends on Friday morning remembered the work and commitment of Rachel Jones Williams.

Her funeral was held at Zion Assembly of Harrisburg.

Jones Williams received her bachelors degree from Elizabethtown College when she was in her mid 30's and obtained several advanced degrees years later.

Jones Williams was an educator and taught at various levels that included St. Stephens School in Harrisburg.

Her former students say she was demanding, but had a soft side.

"You knew where you stood," said Sabrina Amoros. "She really told it like it was."

Marquia Cumberbatch, a junior at Bishop McDevitt, says Jones Williams was a teacher first, but approachable.

"She gave us motivation," Cumberbatch said. "She was always there if you needed someone to talk to."

Jones Williams was very active in the church, even while she was fighting several illnesses at the same time.

Rachel Jones Williams was 44.
