UPDATE: 6:27 p.m.

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg Police say a man was assaulted while walking to his car after Scaremare late Saturday night.

Police say the 23-year-old victim was in a group near James Street and Carroll Avenue, when they saw another group of five to seven guys around an SUV.

They say one of those males approached the victim and hit him on the head with an unknown object.

Police don't believe the victim knows anyone in the other group

The victim was treated and released from the hospital.

Police say they were on the scene within three minutes, but say the suspect and his buddies were gone.

The victim's fiancee emailed the newsroom, disputing the time it took police to arrive. She says they were on the phone with 911 for 20-45 minutes before police arrived.
