Insurance Worries Over Teachers Carrying Guns in School

Posted:

Bedford Co., VA - A Bedford County supervisor thinks allowing teachers to carry guns in school could save money, but could it end up costing the school system its insurance policy?

John Sharp has proposed asking the General Assembly to look at legislation that would allow teachers to carry concealed. The Board of Supervisors denied a $800,000 request by the sheriff to put a resource officer in every school.

When Kansas allowed teachers to carry concealed earlier this year, the company that insures schools in that state said it would drop any school that allowed teachers to carry guns in school.

Bedford County's insurance company told the school system it doesn't have any clients that allow concealed carry already and can't say at this point what the company would do.
