Cleanup continues after raw sewage spews into homes

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

What a mess.

Nearly 10 residents on West Charlotte Street in Millersville had some nasty cleanup on their hands after sewage spewed into their homes early Wednesday morning.

One homeowner caught the stomach-churning event on camera, saying the sewage was running out of a basement toilet for nearly two hours.

"I could hear a waterfall. When I took a couple steps down here I could see my carpeting was completely covered in a muddy, disgusting liquid," Lindsay Gerner said.

They estimate the damage at $20,000 and say their insurance will not cover it.

Millersville Borough Manager Ed Arnold said the problem started when a water line broke, which in turn broke the sewer line.

There's no word yet on the cause, or if the pipe's condition played a role.
