Coastal Carolina Fair celebrates opening day

Posted: Updated:

LADSON, S.C. (WCIV) — Ferris wheels, elephant ears and animal exhibits: it's that time of the year again. The 57th annual Coastal Carolina Fair is back in town.

The fair opened its doors to the public Thursday afternoon. It will remain open until Nov 10.

Fair organizers say this year's fair will include 67 rides, and as always a section of rides for the little ones.

"The rides are really fun," said Ciera Stoner who comes to the fair every year.

Tylette Manigault says her daughter begged her to go to the fair and says she couldn't tell her no.

"We're having so much fun and it's so awesome. We love it so much and the food is fantastic," said Manigault.

With opening day falling on Halloween, some fairgoers may have bumped into a skeleton or perhaps a walking corpse.

"I'm a zombie, got some spray paint and spray painted myself," said fairgoer Aaron Carr.

Since 1957, the fair has been putting smiles on the faces of the many people who attend. Fair organizers say every time it gets bigger and better.

"Our brand is all fun. We want you to come out and have a great time," said Joe Bolchoz with The Exchange Club.

This year, fair organizers are expecting close to 250,000 people to walk through the gates.

"We can break an all-time record given good weather," said Bolchoz.

Bolchoz says the fair helps to generate around $800,000 that will in turn be donated to more than 40 charitable organizations throughout the Lowcountry.
