CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

A man accused of abusing two boys in his care is headed to trial on assault and endangerment charges.

A district judge on Monday found enough evidence against 40-year-old Richard Anthony Scarlett to send the case to Cumberland County Court.

Scarlett allegedly hit the boys, denied them food, and had inappropriate contact with one of the children on numerous occasions, according to charging documents.

One of the boys, now 11 years old, told authorities that Scarlett abused him physically and sexually beginning when he was 6 years old, the criminal complaint states.

The other boy said Scarlett would often lock them out of the house or inside rooms for hours and would not allow them to have food and water, the complaint states.

He said Scarlett punched him in the face with a closed fist on one occasion, and once "body slammed" to the floor and caused him to black out, according to the complaint.

Scarlett faces a formal arraignment Nov. 4 on charges of endangering the welfare of children, simple assault and indecent assault.

He remains in Cumberland County Prison on $150,000 cash bail.
