Food Pantries Get Donations from United Way Food Drive

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - A chance for 10 area food pantries to stock up their shelves at the United Way of Central Virginia Friday.

The United Way says so many people in the area have no idea where their next meal is going from, and a lot of them are children. During the month of October, the United Way held a food drive across the community.

On Friday representatives from the food pantries stopped by the United Way office to pick up all of the collected items.

"Over the last three years, we have raised over 25,000 pounds of food for area food banks, and we've been able to do it because of all the wonderful people who pitch in to help," said Marie Martin of the United Way of Central Virginia.

The Brookville Middle School band played a piece of music called Perpetual Hope, written by its director, Frankie Nettles. He says he was inspired by his students for their winning efforts to band together to stop hunger.
