Need for Heating Assistance Doubles

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA – Wind chills in the 20s and 30s were a sign of Arctic air moving into our area Tuesday.

The chilly temperatures have several emergency aid agencies seeing their largest influx of clientele so far.

Interfaith Outreach says the need has literally doubled from this time last year. They say folks are not only seeking heat assistance, they're also seeking shelter.

"In the last 30 days, we have had almost 80 brand new people who have never come to us for assistance before," Shawne Farmer, Executive Director of the Interfaith Outreach Association.

The Director for Interfaith Outreach says they've doubled the amount of money they're giving people. They say they're trying to make up for the budget cuts of other agencies.

The outreach program says they desperately need donations.

If you would like to help, we have information on how you can click here.

If you need heating assistance, you can stop by Interfaith Outreach between 9 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday.
