Sen. Newman Speaks to Students in Forest

Posted:

Bedford Co., VA - High school students in Bedford County are getting a government lesson from people who have learned first-hand how Richmond operates.

State Senator Steve Newman spoke to Mrs. Morris' government class at Jefferson Forest High School Wednesday afternoon.

Newman's visit is part of "Take Your Legislator to School Month" sponsored by the Virginia School Board Association.

Newman talked to the students about education legislation that affects them... like bills about SOL testing and school takeovers.

"You end up with kids who really understand, they really have thought about a number of issues. They've got their own perspective. They're growing into those voters that they need to be," Newman said.

Delegate Scott Garrett is scheduled to speak to a government class Thursday at Liberty High School.
