Pittsylvania County Schools Planning for New STEM Academy

Pittsylvania Co., VA- The Pittsylvania County School Board is working aggressively to have a brand new STEM academy for elementary, middle and high school students next fall.

The academy will focus on hands-on and problem serving learning.

The school division has together 14 different action teams working on the different components of the program.

They said the academy will prepare students for the many programs the school division has, such as their new precision machining program.

"We think the stem academy will create a very nice pipeline of students that feed into those particular programs ,and give us the opportunity to bring our students up to the level of 21st century career readiness and college readiness," said James McDaniel, Pittsylvania County Schools Superintendent.

The school board will announce at their meeting next Tuesday where the new STEM academy will be housed.
