Ex-HACC VP pleads guilty to wire fraud

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A former vice president at Harrisburg Area Community College who allegedly stole more than $228,000 in school funds has pleaded guilty to wire fraud.

Nancy Rockey, 55, of Harrisburg, entered the plea Thursday before U.S. District Court Chief Judge Christopher Conner.

She will face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison at sentencing.

Rockey used her HACC credit card to purchase Target gift cards online, then used the gift cards to buy non-work-related items for herself, her family and her friends, according to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith.

She also created bogus invoices that she submitted to the HACC finance office to conceal the unauthorized purchases, Smith said.

Rockey was employed by HACC from 1980 until her resignation in February 2012. At the time of her resignation, she was vice president of the Harrisburg campus and vice president of College and Community Development.

The credit card was provided to her for the purchase of work-related items such as text books, training materials and other educational items.
