Radford Police Arrest Teen On Slew of Assault, Battery Charges

Posted:

Radford, VA – Radford City Police say they had to use a taser to get a man under control after they tried to arrest him for breaking and entering Thursday.

Police say they responded to a call about a breaking and entering in progress at the 1300 Block of Downey Street.

Officers found John David Shobe, IV, 18, breaking things at the resident and yelling when they arrived. Police say Shobe immediately became combative with officers and had to be forcefully restrained.

Officers from the Radford Police Department along with Radford University Police struggled with Shobe, finally using tasers to get him under control, police say.

People living in the apartment told police that Shobe broke into the apartment, attacking their K-9 pet. A female victim suffered a broken arm during the incident and was transported to the New River Valley Medical Center for her injuries, police said.

Shobe was transported to the New River Valley Medical Center as well, and was released Saturday, where he was immediately taken to the New River Valley Regional Jail and was held on a $3,000 secured bond.

Shobe faces a slew of charges, including: breaking and entering, four counts of assault and battery of a police officer, two counts of assault and battery of a female victim, three counts of destruction of property, one count of impeding law enforcement, one count of cruelty of animals, one count of preventing law enforcement from making an arrest, and possession of marijuana.
