ABC 33/40 has confirmed the man that was hit in Adamsville, Saturday, has died as a result of his injuries.

According to investigators on scene, a small pickup truck struck and killed a man, who was a contractor from Georgia. He was performing maintenance work for the state.

The worker was standing in a blocked-off section of Highway 78.

The driver of the pickup truck then struck a woman, who is injured, but the extent of her injuries is unknown.

Investigators on scene say the driver narrowly missed a flag man, who was directing traffic at the time.

Investigators say they are working to pull phone records of the driver to see if texting and driving was a factor in the incident.

Deputies believe the female driver might have been texting and driving at the time of the crash.

It has been reported that the woman, who was hit, almost had her arm severed following the crash. The man was then dragged by the vehicle, according to deputies.

It is unclear how many of the people involved were transported to a local hospital. The extent of injuries are unknown, but are believed to be life-threatening.
