SPRING CITY, Pa. (AP) - A jury of United Methodist clergy will decide whether one of their own is guilty of violating church law by officiating his son's same-sex wedding.

The Methodist church has put the Rev. Frank Schaefer on trial in southeastern Pennsylvania, accusing him of breaking his pastoral vows by presiding over the 2007 ceremony in Massachusetts.

The 13-member jury got the case Monday afternoon.

Schaefer has testified that he decided to break a church rule banning pastors from performing same-sex marriages out of love for his son.

The church's attorney, the Rev. Christopher Fisher, has told jurors that Schaefer's fatherly love didn't give him the right to break his vows.

Schaefer could be defrocked if the jury convicts him.
