MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

An Illinois man stopped for suspected drunken driving on Interstate 81 is facing additional charges for fleeing officers, according to police.

Silver Spring Township police said 30-year-old Dariusz Piekunko initially complied and pulled over Nov. 11, but then shifted into reverse towards the police car, then shifted back into drive and fled from the scene.

Piekunko led police from Interstate 81 to Conodoguinet Parkway, where a spike strip was used at the intersection of Willow Mill Park Road. He then continued for a short distance before stopping in the 1st block of Flowers Drive, police said.

Piekunko was taken into custody after a brief standoff with officers. Police said he will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, careless driving, reckless endangerment, and resisting arrest.
