Senator Creigh Deeds Listed in Good Condition at UVA Medical Center

Posted:

Charlottesville, VA - Officials at UVA Medical Center tell ABC 13 that Senator Creigh Deeds is now listed in good condition.

The Senator was flown to the hospital Tuesday morning after police say he was stabbed in torso and face inside his Bath County home by his son Gus, 24.

State Police say Gus Deeds turned the gun on himself after the stabbing.

Bath County's Sheriff says he knew Gus as a great person.

"No problems at all with Gus, he's a super kid. [He was an] A+

student, I mean he was a top notch student," said Bath Co. Sheriff Robert Plecker.

In 2009, Gus Deeds campaigned with his father during the Governor's Race.

Those who know the family say Gus Deeds and his father were close, and he left school to help with the campaign.

We've learned Gus Deeds started to have troubles this fall. He was a music major at William and Mary but recently dropped out.

Just Monday, the Richmond Times Dispatch says Gus Deeds underwent an involuntary mental health evaluation at Bath Community Hospital, but was released because there was no psychiatric bed available in a wide area.

ABC 13 will continue to work this story Wednesday, including why there aren't enough beds, and how emergency custody orders work. Stay with us for more updates.
