UPDATE: Medical Examiner's Office Confirms Gus Deeds Died From a Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

Posted:

Roanoke, VA - An autopsy and examination by the Office of the Medical Examiner in Roanoke confirms the gunshot wound to Senator Creigh Deeds' son, Gus, was self-inflicted and fired from a rifle.

State Police also say that a non-emergency call for assistance was made to the Bath County Sheriff's Office on Monday, and deputies responded.

Investigators also say they have found a weapon believed to have been used in the stabbing of Senator Deeds at the scene Tuesday. The type of weapon will not be released until the Virginia Department of Forensic Evidence makes confirmation of whether or not it was used in the attack.

The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Salem Field Office with the assistance of the Bath County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate.

Because the investigation is still active, the 911 tapes are not being released at this time.
