Salem VA Opens New Mental Health Facility

Posted:

Salem, VA - The Salem VA officially opened its new mental health facility Wednesday morning.

Over the past decade, federal money to treat mental illness in veterans has been on the rise.

Construction on the 25,000 square foot building officially got underway in September of last year.

The total cost comes in around $9.2 million.

The state of the art facility has nearly 40 beds that will use an approach focusing on enhanced patient centered care.

"Safety is paramount but there are lots of new technologies and new ways that we can have an environment like this, that is safe, but is also very home-like and comfortable," said Dr. David Buyck with the Veteran's Administration

The Salem VA's mental health programs cover veterans primarily from Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina.
