WEST YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

A man shot Wednesday evening in West York has died.

William Terrell, 37, died at York Hospital shortly before 10 p.m., according to the York County coroner's office.

An autopsy was scheduled Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown.

Terrell, of the 100 block of S. Highland Avenue, was transported to the hospital after officers responded to a report of gunshots fired in the 1400 block of W. King Street around 5:30 p.m. and found him with multiple wounds, West York police said.

A patrolman saw a man matching the description of a suspect, but that man fled through several yards towards the 1400 block of Stanton Street when he saw the officers, police said.

Numerous officers and two police canines searched for him, but did not find him.

Police also continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call West York police at 717-854-1975 or leave an anonymous tip at 717-478-8477.
