Reach for cell phone leads to 2-car crash

NEW HOLLAND, Pa. (WHTM) -

A woman reaching for a cell phone struck two utility poles in New Holland before her vehicle was rear-ended by a driver who fled the scene, police said.

New Holland police said 30-year-old Sara Wills, of Ephrata, ran off the right shoulder in the 1800 block of Division Highway before sideswiping one PPL pole and crashing into a second shortly after 2 a.m. Friday.

Wills was then struck in the left rear area by a gray car that went into the left shoulder, sideswiped a third pole, ran over two mailboxes, and went through a yard, police said.

The other driver continued west on Division Highway and has not been identified, according to police, who said the fleeing vehicle would have severe left side and right front damage.

Wills was cited for careless driving.
