Police warn of sewer, trash bill scams

Posted: Updated:
YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police in York County are warning residents of a scam where residents were told their sewer and trash bills were overdue.

West Manchester Township police said a number of residents on Wednesday and Thursday received automated calls or voice mail messages from unknown people claiming to be from the Sewer and Refuse Department.

In all cases, the bills had been paid and no balances were due, police said.

Police said the calls obviously were attempts to scam money from the residents, and that the township does not conduct business in this manner.

They advised anyone who receives such a call to hang up immediately, or not return the voice mail message, but to call the police department at 717-792-9514 to file a report.

Residents of West Manchester who have questions concerning their sewer and refuse account should contact the administration office at 717-792-3505.
