Lynchburg, VA- Sweet Briar hosted its fifth Girls on the Run race Saturday morning.
Nearly 500 girls came out to run the 5K all over the beautiful campus. Teams from many area schools were present.
According to Council Director, Mary Hanson, the girls have been training for 12 weeks and Saturday marked a celebration of the completion of the program.
Girl's on the Run's mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident.
"So when they cross that finish line they know that they have achieved something, not only just the physical part of the race, but also having gone through and built a team with their teammates," said Mary Hanson who is the Girls on the Run Council Director.
Girl's on the run also aims to educate and prepare girls for a life-time of self-respect and healthy living.

There's nothing like a good old traffic detour to get your day started the right way. More >>
